Inspired by her grandmother's words, "I can do all things through Christ and hard work," Camille embarked on a journey of entrepreneurship and education in the world of natural soapmaking and personal care products.
The Genesis of Hazel's Soapery The inception of Hazel's Soapery was influenced by several pivotal life experiences:
1. Health Concerns: After undergoing breast surgery to remove a mass caused by a blockage from using clinical strength deodorant, Camille realized the importance of safe, natural personal care products.
2. Natural Hair Care Needs: Camille transitioned to natural hair care after recognizing the health risks associated with chemical relaxers. This journey deepened her understanding of the need for gentle, effective hair care solutions.
3. Grief and Healing: Following the passing of her beloved grandmother, Camille sought a creative outlet for her grief. Her grandmother, a cosmetologist and entrepreneur in the 1930s, often mixed her own products for her clients. This familial connection to beauty and entrepreneurship inspired Camille to explore creating her own products.
While researching natural hair care ingredients, Camille discovered soapmaking videos by Zakia Ringgold, whose personal and professional journey resonated deeply with her. Zakia's integration of technology and soapmaking further fueled Camille's enthusiasm, and strongly influenced Camille's decision to launch Hazel's Soapery. Camille's goal is to share the knowledge and support she received on her journey, helping others navigate their paths to wellness and entrepreneurship. As a mother with sensitivities, and with children who also have sensitive skin, Camille emphasizes the importance of gentle, effective, and lightly scented products. Background and Experience Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Camille's journey has taken her across several states, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio. She attended Penn State University and has always had a passion for teaching. Through Hazel's Soapery, Camille combines her love for education, natural products, and entrepreneurship, continuing her grandmother's legacy of innovation and care.
